WHAT IS 3D DESIGN?
A Level 3D Design is a two-year art based course which allows students to be creative and expressive with their ideas and designs in both a 2dimensional and 3dimensional form. Projects are devised to help students understand the fundamental process of design through research, design development and final outcomes. Students are encouraged through experimentation with materials such as wood, wire, paper and clay and learning a wide range of techniques. SKILLS3D Design gives you a wide range of transferable skills which will support you in Higher Education and the workplace. 3D Design allows you the opportunity to use equipment and materials found in industry to help you prepare for your future career.

INDUCTION PROJECT
At the start of the course, students will focus on learning and developing the skills required for the subject through a series of workshops and projects. They will create a series of 3D responses using a wide range of materials and techniques influenced by various artists, designers, architects and craft people. Students will work with materials such as paper, cardboard, wood, wire, Porcelain, Crank and Red clay, whilst being taught a variety of techniques. Students will also be taught various CAD packages such as 2D Design, AutoCAD and 3D fusion in order to use the 3D Printer and Laser cutter situated in the classroom. At the end of the induction stage students will have a one to one with the course leaders to discuss possible directions for them to being their 'Personal Investigation' (see Component 1 below). Throughout the course all research and practical work will be professionally presented across a range of formats including 'Weebly' blogs and mounted boards. This will then be used for student Portfolios and fro moderation.
COMPONENT 1: PERSONAL INVESTIGATION. (60% OF A LEVEL)
Learners should produce two elements:
- A portfolio of practical work showing their personal response to either a starting point, brief, scenario or stimulus, devised and provided by the learner or centre
- A related study: an extended response of a guided minimum of 1000 words.
COMPONENT 2: EXTERNALLY SET TASK (40% OF A LEVEL)
Learners will respond to an externally set task which will provide a number of starting points. A response will be based on one of these options.
